IIP-SARS; WE CHARGED PETITIONER TO COURT FOR GIVING FALSE INFORMATION; POLICE REVEALS.

The police today cited “falsehood" as being the reason why a petitioner, one Bashir Ahmed was charged to court.

Making this revelation before the Independent Investigative Panel on human rights violations by defunct SARS and other units of the Nigerian Police Force, the DPO Abdullahi Ishaq who is among the six people linked to the case of alleged threat to life, cruel inhumane, and degrading treatment of Bashir Ahmed, informed the panel that investigations into a complaint brought before his area command revealed that, the petitioner had misled the police.

A Complainant’s lawyer Onome Okorozegbo in the case of alleged extra-judicial killing of one Mr. Ovoke Godwin Onomrerhino on Wednesday told the IIP-SARS that Mr. Ovoke was beaten to death by a team of police officers led by Inspector Kabari Tambari.

The Nigerian Police Force on Tuesday told the IIP-SARS that they have the power to investigate, arrest and prosecute any person allegedly involved in criminal breach of trust and cheating saying that they are empowered to do so by the Police Act.
