Introduction

The National Human Rights Commission (the Commission) was established by the National Human Rights Commission (Establishment) Act 1995, with amendment in 2010 to promote and protect the human rights of Nigerian citizens in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 and other national laws, regional and international human rights instruments to which Nigeria is a state party.

As Nigeria joins the rest of the African Community to mark the 2020 African Human Rights Day, the Executive Secretary National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Tony Ojukwu Esq. calls on African Leaders to do all that is within their powers under the law to ensure the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms of their citizens and everyone living within the continent.
